#40 ~ The ‘Project’ Update …

Before I get started, I got a peek of my new blog layout last night and it’s awesome…and makes me giggle. If you want to continue to follow along, make sure you subscribe to the blog either by email or in an RSS reader. My web address will be changing.

Yesterday was an amazing day. I had a 5 hour meeting with “Earphone Man“. For those of you who haven’t been following long, I blogged about an innocent bystander who eventually found my blog and contacted me. Let me just say, God seriously sets you next to people for a reason. He has a client list that is beyond impressive…authors, famous people, extremely successful business men and women…

Without getting into too many details (I haven’t the time at the moment), he has presented me with an amazing opportunity that I couldn’t ever make happen on my own.

I also had a great conference call with Mr. Pres, VP and Web Dude. This is really happening. I’m out-of-my-skin excited, yet scared…and I can’t really pin down what it is I’m scared of. I’ll be contacting PR Girl this week. Can’t wait to introduce you to her.

Lots of conference calls and meetings next week.

This month I’ll be meeting with the woman who approached me about the TV thing…I hate not being able to disclose details.

This question keeps coming to mind over and over…

Have you ever been afraid of your dreams actually coming true?

#30 ~ Being a follower is underrated. (and a few clues)

“The first follower transforms a lone nut into a leader.” – HA, so being a lone nut isn’t such a bad thing! I’m in luck! This video is HILARIOUS…I cannot stop watching it…

Speaking of followers…I LOVE MINE!! When I started this blog, I never imagined I’d have so many followers and so quickly.

Some new followers have been sending me emails, comments and tweets asking what my blog is all about. First off, thanks for joining me on my adventure. Pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee or tea (I just made some blueberry pomegranate tea…it’s fab!) and make yourself comfy…

Oh and a BIG WELCOME to “Earphone Man” – I blogged about the guy who sat next to us at Starbucks and he found my blog yesterday and left a comment on the post named after him! LOVE IT!

So, what is this blog about???

You can catch up on your reading by either clicking on the first month I started blogging (January 2010) on the right hand side of this blog and then scroll down or you can click on “The ‘Project'” on the tag cloud on the sidebar.

The name “6 Feet Over” – I’m 6 feet tall and I am trying to accomplish some rather big items on my bucket list before I’m 6 feet under. (By the way, I’ll be posting my full bucket list when my blog makeover is done…see below.)

I started blogging 2 hours after I got the green light for one of the biggest items on my bucket list. It’s a super secret project that I can’t completely disclose yet due to confidentiality agreements, but trust me, it’s a good one.

The Characters:

  • I pitched my idea to Mr. Pres. He’s not the President of the USA, but he’s a President of a pretty large company. He loved the idea of the project and in January he said, “let’s get this started!”
  • Another character in this story is VP. He works with Mr. Pres.
  • We’ve recently added Web Dude to the mix. He’s, well, our web dude and has one of the largest roles in the national company we’re starting. So, if it all fails, it’s his fault. No, just kidding. 😉
  • There will be more characters added to this journey soon. PR Girl is amazing and I cannot wait to introduce her to you all! This gal has some astounding  accomplishments.
  • Then there’s Big Wig Editor Man who is following this blog. Truth be told, it makes me a little nervous that he’s following because I’m fully aware that I need an editor…or a brain transplant. Maybe I could get a neurologist to follow the blog, too?

Earlier this month, I blogged about my trip to see Mr. Pres, VP and Web Dude. VP and Web Dude live in the same state (not the state I’m in). Mr. Pres and I live across the country from each other, so getting us all together in person for a meeting is a bit of a challenge. I’ll most likely be visiting Web Dude on a somewhat regular basis soon. Luckily, I don’t have to travel too far. (Hmmm, clue maybe???)

What do I blog about?

Oh and another thing, my blog is undergoing a HUGE BLOG MAKEOVER! Yaaay! Revka is working on it and it should be revealed within the next few weeks. I snagged a domain so the web address will be changing, but I’ll give my subscribers the heads up.

Follow meeeee….

Speaking of, you can subscribe to this blog by email or RSS feed. Just go to the top right of this page. You’ll only get notifications when I update the blog. I don’t spam and you shouldn’t either.

You can find me on Twitter, too.

So, here I stand…dancing to the beat of my own drum…the lone nut. Thank you for following. Thank you for encouraging me. Thank you for picking me up when I’ve thought I was crazy for dreaming so big. Thank you for making me laugh with all your comments and emails.

#26 ~ Introducing Mr. Pres, VP and Web Dude!!

Let me preface this post with the fact that it’s late and I’m not planning on proofreading. My eyes are tired so I don’t think it would help much if I did anyhow. ha

I’m sitting in one of the most comfy beds ever in a pretty snazzy hotel. I’m completely jazzed from the day I’ve had…exhausted because I couldn’t sleep last night. I never sleep before a flight. I think I got around an hour and a half nap before my alarm went off at 5:15am.

Since it’s late and I have to get up early in the morning I’m going to try something different. Let’s call this a photo essay blog entry.

Here’s my big day in photos …

One of the reasons I couldn’t fall asleep last night was due to the “to wear the 4 inch stiletto boots or not to wear them” debate that raced through my mind. You see, I’m the one who secretly makes fun of women who wear these contraptions to airports. You can see who won the debate. Be proud though…I only packed one small bag and a laptop tote!

Resisted spending anything here, but I didn’t resist a little window shopping. Had my eye on a cute key chain, but I’m a loyal Lia Sophia jewelry girl so I didn’t even look at the bobbles .

I must admit…I was looking forward to traveling solo so that I could finally tackle the book I started reading months ago. I can’t even remember the last time I finished a book. Toddlers have a way of distracting you. Oh and by the way, The Tipping Point is AWESOME!

Hilarious little story about Mr. Pres picking me up from the airport. I texted him to say my plane had landed and he responded,

“Head straight out door 6 and cross over to the pickup. I will be in a white Malibu.”

So, I followed his directions and soon spotted said vehicle. Waved. Couldn’t see inside due to the glare. Went to the backseat to throw my bags in. The door was locked so I tapped on the window gently. The door unlocked, I opened it and a nice gentleman who was a complete stranger looks back at me and says,

“You can get in if you want, but you have the wrong car.”

::::snort laugh::::

I look up and Mr. Pres is across the street laughing. Classic!

This is Mr. Pres….he’s driving us to one of the facilities while on a conference call. Let me just tell you, this man is on conference calls 24/7….and you thought I talked alot? I’ve met my match! 😉

The next few photos are from our Super Top Secret Meeting. …

Web Dude is a part of the story now that he has received a confidentiality agreement. You’ll notice my mad skills on photo shop…I blurred out the super secret paperwork that is shown in some of the photos. Not like you could ever really make out what it said since I have an ancient iPhone with a junky camera on it…

I’m now pleased to introduce VP. He’s in deep thought…

And here’s Mr. Pres in deep thought as well. These are some serious guys, people….

Mr. Pres, Melody and VP … I think we’re talking about iPhones and apps for the iPhone…this could be a little clue to something, but you didn’t hear it from me.

Web Dude on his Mac … My Dell has Mac envy. They made fun of Dell. I don’t blame them…he’s around 83 years old in computer years, but he’s still kickin’!

Our meeting with Web Dude was highly productive. I wish you could see the excitement on my face right now. I really cannot believe that we’re at this point…this is really happening!

After our powwow, we went back to the facility where VP gave me a tour. Now, don’t get too wrapped up in the tour because it’s somewhat not related to the project, but that’s all I’m saying about that…

We ended the evening at a fabulous Italian restaurant where VP chose a rather fine wine. Highly suggest it. Thanks, again for the fabulous dinner! (Yes, this photo is evidence of a bad cell camera…I know.)

Well, it’s late…I really must get to bed since the alarm is set for way-too-early-o’clock. Can’t wait to see what the next chapter of the project holds. I should have more to update within the next week.

I still can’t believe that things are rollin’! Somebody pinch me!

#23 ~ Melody’s attempt to be short and sweet …

Before I get started, I would like to thank everyone who left such wonderfully supportive and kind comments on the recent post about my husband’s story. Although my life is pretty much an open book, I still hesitate to share sometimes. I think reality TV makes me censor things that I blog about…I mean, who wants to hang everything out for the world to see other than the ‘Real Housewives’ and those Jersey girls. heh heh

I’ll keep this update short and sweet. (Right now you’re saying, “Yeah right, since when does Melody know the definition of short, both figuratively and literally?”)

The Project:

We are securing the person who will be handling the largest part of the ‘project’…the website. We have things lined up and ready to go on almost every other level, but the website is extraordinarily complicated. Whenever we think we have things mapped out for it, we come up of something else that needs to be addressed. It’s going to be amazing, but it’s going to take some time.

I’m not a fan of ‘hurry up and wait’…I like to keep things movin’ and shakin’ so this part of my journey is teaching me patience. Patience is not a road I take often. I’m the one who jogs quickly down the moving walkways at airports when I’m not in a hurry.  I can’t even stand how long it’s taking me to type this blog post right now. Needless to say, every time I have to wait on a portion of the project, I get antsy. My foot is tapping right now and I don’t have Restless Leg Syndrome.

Mr. Pres recently met with a well-known national company who will be playing a big role in the ‘project’. I’m still working on all the details for the plethora of ‘products’ (for lack of a better term) we’ll offer. I have a mad spreadsheet set up that is kicking my butt.

I’ve been interviewing more people who will play a vital role in the ‘project’ launch. They’re lined up and ready to go. We are just waiting for a few more things to unfold before the mad dash to the finish line begins.

Many of you have been asking when the project will launch. That’s a great question. Mr. Pres and VP would like to kick this off as soon as possible, but we’re still working on how possible ‘soon’ will be. We’re hoping sometime this Summer or Fall. As the project progresses, I’ll be able to share more info though.

I’ve told both Pres and VP about this blog and I’m sure they visit it from time to time….so, EVERYONE SAY HI! :::::waves hand::::::

Another quick thank you before I wrap things up….everyone who gave input on THIS POST really helped our thought process in an area of the ‘project’ we’re working on. Since you all did such a great job, I’ll be coming back for more ideas. I’m a fan of taking polls and actually listening to the people….which is why I never went into politics.

Project #2:

The creator of ‘project #2‘ has a goal to meet with me on a regular basis. She hopes to finalize ‘things’ (I hate having to keep secrets…this is hard) by October. We have a lot of work to do and it’s all so very exciting! I just may be contacting my old theatre teacher for some coaching even though I won’t have to ‘act’ much.

Extras…no charge:

On a side note, I’ve been following my photographer’s blog. She is on a trip to Africa to photograph an adoption! I find myself constantly checking for updates. It’s an amazing adventure! She had the honor of photo journaling an adoption in India as well. The family’s story brought me to tears, especially when they were able to bring their daughter home. I can’t wait to break out the tissues when these parents introduce their son to his new siblings!

One more side note (see, I told you I’m not good at the whole ‘short and sweet’ thing), I’ve finally set up my Google Reader so that I can visit all you bloggers that so kindly visit me. As you may have already noticed, I only have time to blog 2-3 times a week. I may not be able to visit you daily, but I’ll definitely make my rounds. I’ve been finding some fabulous blogs out there. Who needs TV when you’ve got so much awesome reading material out there? Oh wait, I need TV…or should I say, for the sake of my insanity, I need occasional episodes of Max & Ruby, Sesame Street and Dora the Explorer for my two year old.

#17 ~ Audience participation needed … HELP!

You’ve all heard the saying “two heads are better than one” … well, if this is true, then I should be in LUCK. I have a lot of ‘heads’ reading this blog.

This is the part of the adventure where I call on all my readers for assistance. Who doesn’t love a little audience participation anyhow?

I keep coming to a mental road block on something. I have no shame in asking for help. Remember, I professed this a few posts back. Ha. Please, help me…my brain really really hurts right now and I swear the wrinkles on my forehead are going to freeze like this. (Just picture a very thoughtful somewhat stressed look on my face….them are some ugly wrinkles it’s creating.)

OK, this is going to be a challenge to explain. How can I tell you exactly what I need without saying exactly what I need? Ugh.

I just stopped typing so I could think of how to word this.

Just stopped again.

Ten minutes just passed between my last sentence and this one.

Alright, I’m going to keep this as general as possible. I can’t be breaking any confidentiality agreements…

Shout out (in a comment because I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to hear you from your computer) any words, SHORT phrases, play on words or ANYTHING that comes to mind when I say the following:

  1. Modern twist on old-fashioned
  2. Unite
  3. Polite
  4. Considerate

We reserve the right to use anything you post here for the purpose of the ‘project’…so make it fabulous and share as much as you can! If you think of something later, come back and post it on this blog entry.  Feel free to leave multiple comments if needed.

I can’t tell you what it’s for, but I will tell you that if we end up using the exact phrase or term you suggest, you’ll get a shout out for it…a very cool shout out. I’ll interact with your comments in order to provoke your thought process if you’re close to where I’m going with all this.

On a side note, you’ll LOVE the LLC name. I wish I could share it right now. Oh and you won’t believe how awesome ‘project 2’ is…holy moly. I really can’t stand keeping all these secrets. Things are moving along so the story will be unfolding…

#15 ~ Photo shoot, 4 hour call, project #2 and a giveaway…

OK, lots to cover so I’ll just dive in…

I had another fabulous coffee date with my girls Jessie and Blair yesterday at Starbucks. Love this weekly tradition we’ve started. We talked and laughed way too loudly which caused management to turn the background music up. Sad to say, this isn’t the first time in my life that’s happened. 😉 We sat next to another gentleman on a laptop … he didn’t put earphones on though. Instead, he joined us in conversation. In my opinion, if you’re talking that loud, you’re giving the invitation for others to join in. I’m totally cool with that.

Had an extraordinarily FUN photo shoot with Jessie. If you want a sneak peek, click HERE.  It even involved me walking into a tree…for real. Seriously, these things happen when you’re 6 feet tall and you wear 4 inch heeled boots. I’ll be using these photos to spruce up this blog soon (blog makeover coming) and when needed for the project. Jessie did an amazing job. I can’t wait to see all the shots. If you need an awesome photographer, look her up. She travels for photo sessions, too…like AROUND THE WORLD. I stayed up until an ungodly hour reading about her journey to India where she captured every detail of an amazing adoption. I don’t suggest starting to read it at 1:30 am…you may become too emotional to fall asleep after. Just sayin’. 😉

I slept in late this morning (thank you dear husband for allowing me to do so) because I was on a four hour call with Mr. Pres last night. I got off the phone around midnight and didn’t fall asleep until after 2:00 am. I was just too excited. We made lots of progress. I received the approval on some PR and ad proposals I brought to the table. We’re getting lots of legal matter done, too. We’re also solidifying a relationship with a ginormously known company. Ugh…I hate keeping secrets! I am getting pretty good at it though.

Speaking of how well I’m keeping secrets…I’ll now add project #2 to the mix. I was contacted yesterday in regards to another enormous project, which of course, I can’t go into detail about yet.  Let’s just say that it involves TV. I’m meeting with the creator tomorrow afternoon. It may not pan out in the long run, but it’s exciting to have been approached with the opportunity. The adventure of it all is worth it even if it doesn’t come to fruition.

Now on to the ‘giveaway’ portion of this blog post. I’m SO SUPER EXCITED (picture me practically jumping up and down) about Monday’s motivational interview. The woman being interviewed was on ABC’s Shark Tank last week and she’s offered to do a fun giveaway that will add a little ‘bounce’ to your life….and I’m not talking dryer sheets. 😉

I want to thank everyone for the awesomely supportive emails, comments, private messages, etc. Really, you don’t know how much encouragement you’re giving me. To my fellow bloggers, I haven’t had much time to visit lately, but I will soon. 🙂

Have a fabulous weekend and Happy Valentine’s Day!

#12 ~ Conflict enters stage left…

My report on the ‘project’ for the end of this week involves a bit of a climatic turn….

This will be difficult to expand upon since I can’t divulge any particulars. Once again, my ability to keep a secret is strengthening. In order to not spill the beans, all I will say is that a portion of the fabulous idea the ‘project’ is based upon is now out there in the world. When I first learned this, my heart sank and the butterflies in my stomach invited every aunt, uncle and cousin to join in on their flight.

At first, I wondered it if this would bring everything to a screeching halt. Rude and doubtful thoughts ran through my mind, “See, you were a fool to think this was possible…it was too good to be true!” Yada, yada, yada.

After I RSVP’d that I would be attending Melody’s Pity Party, I changed my mind, picked my self-esteem up from the floor, brushed off the negative self-talk, then chucked the invitation in the trash paper shredder. You could say I pulled an SNL Stuart Smalley…”The project is good enough, it’s smart enough and doggone it, people will LOVE it!” (Right now, some of you youngins are Googling Stuart Smalley.)

This is just a speed bump that will not slow the project down, but instead allow for an astute pause to refine my view of the big picture. The project has an exceptionally finer concept with superior options….and I’m not one to shy away from competition. Truth be told, I thrive on competition, but let’s not encourage too much of it, OK?

This new element proves that the project IS a great idea. I’ll stand on that.

As my husband put it, “Things happen so you can blog about it, remember? And besides, every great story needs a climax.”

I’m strappin’ on my highest heels, throwing on the pearls (because us tall girls not only accessorize, but still like to wear 4 inch heels from time to time) and marching into the battle which will lead to next chapter of this adventure.

Someone queue the orchestra to begin dramatic crescendo…

#11 ~ Quick update on the ‘project’ …

I have to admit, I was a bit nervous about posting my “Life is like a bowl of bananas” entry last week. I mean, relating life to mashed bananas could go really far south really fast. Trust me, I don’t need any (or should I say ‘any more’) speculation of my sanity being tossed around.

I was humbled by your comments about my analogy. This one really touched me — Kristin over at BonBon Rose Girls said, “I stopped dreaming big a few years back. It’s time to start again!!”  Girl, get your dream on again!! I got a kick out of Kerry’s comment…apparently, I exhaust her. I understand. I exhaust myself sometimes, but I just can’t help it.

I’ve been meaning to update with the progress on the ‘project’…somehow life gets in the way of blogging. I know, rude.

THURSDAY: I had a productive conference call with Mr. Pres and VP.  (Side note: I’m very thankful for a cooperative child who allows me the ability to work from home on these calls, but I must remember that a silent two year old can also be a sign of mischief. Let’s just say, her ‘quietness’ resulted in a run to Ulta to restock my mineral makeup.)

Mr. Pres and VP shared a vision they had for the ‘project’ which takes it from big to ginormously huge. It’s very exciting and if everything pans out, it will be extremely empowering for many. Man, I wish I could share more. Darn confidentiality agreements.

We’re in the design process. Have I mentioned that I’m charge of all the creative design concepts? We’re waiting on the first ‘run’ to be completed for review. There’s something about seeing your creative efforts in the flesh. There are times I still feel like this is a dream and that my peaceful slumber will be rudely awoken by a radio alarm clock full of static. Maybe seeing it will be believing for me.

Starting to look into PR for national media as well….and thinking that if this does take off, I’ll most definitely need to whiten my teeth.

FRIDAY: Amazing photo shoot with the magnanimously talented photographer, Jessie Baldwin of Speckled Bird Art. The photos will help to transform this blog as well as use for the ‘project’…I’m very thankful for her amazing attention to detail and the ability to retouch. heh heh  Oh and by the way, she witnessed how easy it is for me to walk into tree branches…and that’s all I’m saying about that.

This blog will be undergoing a makeover and possibly a new domain name. I’ll keep you informed.

#9 ~ Life is like a bowl of bananas…

Who would have thought that my inspiration for today could come from my daughter’s bowl of mashed up bananas? I think of the wildest things from the most mundane moments in life. Let me explain…

I’ve been thinking a lot about how many of us have these desires to accomplish larger-than-life goals and how most will just leave it in the backs of their minds. Some will just blatantly throw their dreams out the window.

What is the reason we toss our bucket lists aside? The feeling of being inadequate has crossed my mind from time to time. I’m nobody special. I’m your average Joe, er, I mean, Jane. (No offense to any ladies named Jane.)

I want to do some big things. I want to write a book…a book people would actually want to read. I’d love to give a motivational speech and touch at least one person in a profound way. At one point in my life, I wanted to have my own talk show, but now, I’d rather just be on a talk show at least once. Nothing Jerry Springer-ish though. Those are just a few items on my bucket list that I refuse to set aside.

I haven’t been trained on how to reach my goals. All I have is a burning desire to somehow gather what I have learned throughout life and make something out of it.

So how does the bowl of mashed up bananas play into all of this?

Well, my two year old had just finished her favorite snack of bananas with milk and honey. She whined and fussed  when she realized it was all gone. She wanted more out of that bowl. All she could do was focus on the fact that it was gone. But really, it wasn’t. I told her to calm down and asked her to watch as I scraped the sides of the bowl. I gathered another big spoonful of mush.

She looked up at me and said, “You did it, Mommy!”

That last bite satisfied her. She didn’t beg for more, but instead, got down from her seat and looked around the room for something fun to do now that she was full.

I stopped right there and thought about how that’s life. We can either look at ourselves as scattered leftovers from a bunch of life events that don’t add up to much or we can gather the remnants and see how full our spoon really is….and be satisfied, then move on. Don’t sit there just crying about wanting more. Realize that you didn’t go through all these crazy life events for nothing. Every bite of life has left you just the right amount of residual to fill your spoon.

I’ve had moments this past week where I thought the ‘project’ was too huge for me. I’ve felt empty because of its hugeness. (By the way, it’s not one of the items mentioned above.) The ‘project’ is on a national scale. Now, I know I’m physically tall, but I have never thought myself as nationally-sized-big. Maybe state-sized Rhode Island or Connecticut, but not national.

Today, I’m gathering my banana mush on my spoon.

I have another conference call with Mr. Pres and VP tomorrow. I’ll be reporting about the research I completed last week. I’ll leave out the ‘mashed up bananas’ story. I’m moving on…

#7 ~ 2 hours @ Starbucks, Earphone Man and Inspiration Overflow…

A couple days ago, super awesome rock star-ish Blair (who works here and blogs over here) posted something to the effect of “love your blog…it’s book marked for real…let’s meet up for coffee on my Facebook wall – which not only surprised me, but also caused me to be as animated as a hyped up Yo Gaba Gaba character. Stay-at-home moms will understand this…I get really excited to get out of the house and be a part of a chat session with humans who are potty trained. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love and adore my two year old, but Mama’s got to get out and converse with adults from time to time. As an added bonus, Jessica piped in on our Facebook wall conversation and invited herself joined us. (Jessica is a photographer rock star, just in case you didn’t already know.)

I love that Blair picked Starbucks as our meeting point even though she doesn’t drink coffee…or tea. Funny how coffee joints have become today’s meeting arena. Two and a half hours later, I’m amped up on caffeine, I smell of coffee gloriousness and I’m totally inspired.

We talked, we laughed (way too loud) and we caused the nice gentleman seated next to us to put earphones on while working on his laptop. Side note: have you ever done that…put earphones on just to make it look like you weren’t listening to someone’s conversation? We tested him to see if he was faking it, but after Blair shouted, “I’m peeing myself right now” about four times, he didn’t budge a smirk. We were pretty certain he had the music turned up. (By the way, I did give him the blog address…let’s see if he shows up.)

My 6 Feet Over blog was one of many topics of conversation we had. I’ve received several emails from readers who have shared that they are inspired to either create or tackle their bucket list now. You being inspired, inspires me to share YOUR stories on a regular basis…

If you’re interested in telling me about your dreams and/or goals that you’ve accomplished, email me at Are you inspired to make a bucket list? I’m going to tempt you to share…trust me, putting it out there will make you motivated to take action.

Who knows, I may even randomly interview earphone wearing strangers at my neighborhood Starbucks. Hmmmmm If you know me well, you know I might will do it…
